2016 Christmas Fireplace

On the very rare occasion these days, I took a few pictures of my holiday fireplace. I would have loved to get more photos of the whole house but it was a chore enough to get it all decorated while working full time. Maybe tomorrow I can find time between stepping on legos and cleaning guacamole off of baby dolls heads to take some more photos!

But for now....

Is anyone else a sucker for white poinsettias?! I just swoon over them!

Tree: Walmart
Fake greenery: Hobby Lobby
Fluffy stool: Bed, Bath, & Beyond
Distressed pot: Pottery Barn

The diary of a sad couch: Pottery Barn.

Prior to moving in to our new home we did a lot of research about couches and which would work best for our family. With a growing family and two young children, there was no doubt in my mind that we wanted to have slip covered couches for the convenience of being able to wash them in the case that something made them dirty. We looked at many different places. American Furniture Warehouse, WOW, Ikea, Furniture Row, Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn... to name a few.

After testing out couches, checking inserts, looking at the build of the couch in the show room, we finally decided that Pottery Barn had some great build and quality, or so we thought.

After the couches were delivered, and set down, without slip covers, and the slip covers just thrown on the ground and we were asked to sign for them, we were not off to the greatest of starts. We were so in love with them for the first few months and then the couches started to get this crease in the middle. Fluffing would work for a little bit, but as soon as anyone sat near them, they would start to crease and fall forward.

See the slight crease in the above photo? Behind these pillows that are virtually holding up the entire back are sad, sagging inserts. The pillows hold the backs of the couch pillows up. In other blog photos, I have put cardboard in the insert to keep them upright. I am tired of fighting these things. Do not get me wrong, the couches are COMFORTABLE. But they are failing after just two years of having them. They actually started this sagging biz-nass within the year.

I went in to our local Pottery Barn and spoke with the manager about the sadness in the couch inserts. She asked me if I had the "poly-fill" or "down-fill" and I told her they are the "poly-fill" which are supposed to hold up much better than their "down-fill" counterparts. We looked at the couches on the show room floor and their inserts are MUCH sturdier and look much better.

Look how perky these inserts are?! These will not be what your couch comes with!

The manager on the floor told me that she has people tell her that her couches last between 6 and 8 years before needed new inserts, that something is not right about my two year old sagging couch inserts. In fact, my couch inserts are starting to create small poly-fill balls within the insert.

The manager told me to contact the quality department and send photos because our couch is just over two years old. In fact, two years and one month old. We have two of these, they are both doing it, and for these two couches, they are $3000. Yes, we bought $3000 couches that did not even last two years.

When contacting the quality department, I expected some sort of resolve in terms of these inserts and I got an e-mail back stating that because of the couches age (a ripe two years) they can no longer do anything other than provide me a small discount on new inserts. New inserts for this couch (PB Comfort) are $38 dollars each, and we need four. That is another $152 dollars on top of the $3000 they cost two years ago. Lets be honest, who in their right mind wants to be investing $152 dollars every two years on a couch that cost so much to begin with. Not I said the fly.

Overall, I am just sad that the manager on the floor told me she thinks that something is wrong with my poly-fill, and the quality team can offer no hope for the couches other than more money. While I love these couches, and LOVE how they look when they are not drooping like old lady "you know whats"... It is a major waste of money to buy something that cannot even last two years for such a hefty price.

So, if you are thinking about investing in a Pottery Barn couch for a few thousand dollars, I urge you to do you research and look elsewhere. After a year of having the $3000 couches, you are just about forgotten when it comes to dealing with a failing product. Your couch has one year to fail, and even if they start failing within that year, when you are pregnant and having a baby, it is not on the top of the list to be dealing with a failing couch.

I am fairly sure you would be better off buying the IKEA look-alike for a fraction of what these "saggy girls" cost!

35 weeks.

I cannot believe how fast this pregnancy has FLOWN by. I feel like it was just September yesterday. I don't know if I ever shared this story, but I kind of thought I was pregnant before saying anything to my husband. My best friend was in town from California so we went and bought literally ten tests. All of the digital tests came back negative, but the good ol' fashioned tests showed the FAINTEST line ever. Like ever. We were just hanging out with her mom and dad and her mom was all "congratulations!" and her dad thought we were all lunatics. Literally, he thought we were crazy and he saw absolutely nothing on the stick.

Once we sort of determined that it probably was positive, Heather and I headed to Walmart to find some gender neutral baby shoes (which are extremely difficult to find)…. But ended up picking up some little red shoes and a gift bag. I came home (so excited) and told Berto I had a present for him. And, I secretly video taped the whole thing. It was adorable. Then I told him I was pretty sure, but not yet 100% sure!

The "barely" positive

And here we are, 30 ish weeks later! Shout out to Doug, the women were right… again! :) I had my weekly NST and ultrasound and everything was perfect… which makes me SO happy to hear. She is measuring two weeks ahead again. The ultrasound tech literally said "So much for PAPP-A!" That was really relieving to hear. She also asked how big the boys were, if the boys had big heads (yes - 13.5cm each), and said that this baby may be the biggest one yet!

35 weeks

How far along: 35 weeks
Total weight gain: 21 pounds (ish)
Baby is the size of a: A canary melon (what is this?!)
Maternity clothes: Yes
Stretch marks: Not yet
Sleep: A little bit better. I eliminated a few more things from my diet which has helped my gallbladder pain a little bit more. I am still sleeping with a heating pad rolled up to help with the pain (I miss you, ibuprofen).
Best moment of this week: I was always somewhat hesitant to believe hat babies truly knew their own mothers voice. While I was getting my NST I was proven wrong. Her heartbeat is usually around 130s-140s while I am just laying down in the chair. As soon as the lady came in to ask if I was comfortable, and I responded, her heart rate jumped up to 158 and stayed high while I spoke. It was really cute!
Movement: So so much!
Food cravings: Powdered doughnuts, still.
Anything making you queasy or sick: No
Aches or pains: A little bit of everything.
Have you started to show yet: Yes
Gender: GIRL!!
Labor signs: Nightly STRONG braxton hicks. Some contractions in the early morning.
Belly button in or out: out.
Wedding rings on or off: On
What are you dreaming about: I cannot really remember anything crazy from this week.

I did not check off anything on my to-do list this week. I did, however, measure for the room-darkening shades. I need another yard to finish her little window in her room. I also received my free Medela pump through my insurance company (thanks ACA - or some of you may call it "Obamacare")! I never had the option to get a free pump with the other boys, so I certainly took advantage of this while I could. So now I have two Medela pumps, just in case one breaks. I ordered it through www.edgepark.com, and it was SUPER easy. I am also overwhelmed looking at all of the incredible bow options on Etsy. I love all of them and wish I could order every single one! I did buy one for the fourth of July, just not off of an Etsy website…

I also started working on a little project for the family room this week…. I still need to get some things, but I found some pictures from our family vacations that are going to be a part of this little project. I used Photoshop to lighten them, and you will see why once I get the wheels rolling on this project!

San Jose Del Cabo

Long Beach, California

Well, I think that is all for next week. I am SO SO SO happy to be done with the semester after this week, ah!

Christmas Tour: 2014

I didn't get around to decorating upstairs this year, so I just focused on making the main floor as pretty as I could - given that I did this during my first trimester! I took the photos today, which is a super cloudy day so they are pretty over exposed so they are not too dark and gloomy looking.

Merry Christmas from my house to yours….

The saddest pointsettia, thanks to a ninja fight with Luke and Aiden

The kitchen: since last year we have added pendant lights, cabinet hardware, a third chair, and a faux Roman shade.

I love these new ornaments from Crate and Barrel - they match our navy in our family room.

A simple & grey fall mantel.

Back with a small update on our fall decor! We have changed things quite a bit around here since last fall, and I am loving the new change! Not only did we paint the walls (BM Edgecomb Grey), we also did some rearranging!

Here was our mantel last year….

And here it is now…

We have since moved the yellow canvas to a wall in our kitchen, which will soon be replaced by a new project as soon as I can find what I want on Craig's List, which is proving to be harder than expected…The stool is also in the bathroom, and painted, so the boys can wash their hands. The lanterns now have flameless candles in them and they light up every evening and turn off after 5 hours, they are from Costco, and amazing!

The pumpkins were a fun project. I got them at Hobby Lobby, they are originally a white-ish/yellow-ish color, and they big time clashed with everything in that room. So, I decided to paint them in some Annie Sloan French Linen paint I had left over and I love the way they turned out. The wheat is also from Hobby Lobby!

What do you think? What do your fall mantels and home decor look like this year!! I am seriously loving this seasons fall stuff. Now, if the weather could just get cooler that would be great!!

This little princess also wanted to hang out while I blogged! Love her!
